Instruments & Hire
I have 2 full-size cellos which are available for rent in conjunction with lessons. If you interested in hiring one please let me know in your lesson inquiry.
If you don’t have your own instrument, I’m happy to give you a trial lesson on one of my own instruments. However if you wish to continue lessons, you will need to get your own. Keyboards can be bought relatively cheaply, and cellos can be hired, but double basses are rarely available for hire & require purchase. Buying a cello or double bass can be quite expensive, but once bought an instrument will last you a lifetime as long as you take care of it. Most adults can play a full-size cello but cannot play a full-size double bass, and will only ever play a 3/4 size. Please consult a specialist string teacher (like myself) or an experienced luthier before purchasing any instruments.
Buying a cello upfront can save you a great deal of money, as opposed to renting it. A decent cello will cost upwards of $1000, while renting a cello often costs $50-60/month. This means that if you are planning on playing your cello for more than 2 years, you will have saved money by buying one. However every situation is unique and only you can make the right decision for yourself.
